Senior Underwriter

Full Time | Senior Underwriter | Technical Department |Bahrain

Job Summary

  • Actively assist department manager to underwrite risks and manage portfolios of different classes of risks.
  • Propose and recommend terms and conditions in respect of risks/policies, adhering to underwriting guidelines, authority limits, treaty limits and treaty conditions at all times. Present such terms for approval of senior underwriter or direct manager.
  • Underwrite risks within the scope of assigned underwriting authorities.
  • Complete necessary documents and forms relating to respective underwriting transactions for the review of the direct manager as prescribed in the underwriting guidelines and procedures manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the risks offered and review underwriting information including proposal forms.
  • Decide on appropriate terms and conditions of the quotation to be issued in line with Company’s underwriting guidelines.
  • Deal with referrals from regional offices in a timely and professional manner.
  • Underwrite within level of underwriting authorities as delegated and updated from time to time by senior management.
  • Arrange facultative reinsurance as and when required and ensure that the Company is not left financially exposed beyond reinsurance treaty capacity before binding of risk.
  • Support department head to improve underwriting performance and profitability across all lines of business.
  • Meet with clients and brokers as and when required. Maintain good contacts and cordial business relationship with them over phone on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure responses and quotations are given in a timely manner.
  • Ensure renewal reviews for all policies are carried out in time every month to be able to invite renewals 30 days in advance
  • Process important and/or complex policy documentation as and when required.
  • Review all documents produced by Processors to ensure they reflect inter alia the correct terms, conditions, sum insured, premium and deductibles.
  • Assist department head in preparation of reinsurance treaty renewal information and other information with regard to reinsurance treaties as and when required.
  • Assist department head in preparation of budgets and various reports including MIS as and when required
  • Adhere to the Company’s internal procedures and policies including but not limited to underwriting guidelines and underwriting authorities.

Qualifications

  • University degree is a must or holder of professional qualifications e.g. CII or Dip CII.
  • Substantial progress towards ACII.

  • Expert knowledge in Underwriting
  • Strategic understanding of international and local laws and regulations
  • Good command in English
  • Preferably bilingual
  • 5+ years of experience
